Default lyric cinema

25 years ago this coming week , our neighbouring town lost its cinema , the Lyric , built in the 1930's it was of art deco building design , with new Simplex projection equipment and the latest Western electric sound system , and equipped for the new Cinema Scope film's , plush seating and carpeted , all for a class 3 cinema .
With cinema's falling off fashion , it was to be taken over by Bingo this remained for the next few years , until Bingo was again out of fashion and the building laid empty for a few years .
As it was Grade 2 listed its fate was undecided - until one day the local yob's decided that their drug and booze den had out grown their needs , and a act of arson was to follow ....... so in May 1995 the Lyric cinema was no more , to-day a childrens playground occupies the site .

here is the model I made a few years ago , also of note we were on the trolly bus route and the last system to have a new route added , Teesside Railless Traction last run was 1971 , Bradford Corporation sailored on a bit longer .

We all here hate to see any cinema or Theatre come to an end like that

It should never happen, our City had three cinema's at one time and three theatre's, now this is just one cinema and one theatre but more of an art centre really

But we do have more than most as we do have the Old Kemble Theatre that is now a Theatre and Cinema, we hope it takes you back to the days you remember, thanks to Bob and Lady-J

Also what great model you made, is it a part of your model trains?

Holly

at first it was , but after asked to display a model it got a clear plastic case made and has lived inside ever since , the car's and people are removable .

the real cinema must have been very posh in its day , Grangetown was a steel workers place , nestled between Clay Lane , and Cleveland Iron works and coke oven's - not quite the place for art deco buildings
